Make your cake stand out with these cake-decoration techniques and tips

Tip #1: Never decorate a warm cake

Never start decorating a cake when it is still warm or even just taken out of the oven. Wait for it to cool! This will avoid melted icing. Place the cooled cake in the freezer for a day or so and only then decorate it. You will see – with this cake decoration technique, the icing definitely stays the way you want it to be.

Tip #2: Use the right tools

Recommended tools for perfect cake decorating:

  • Cake Turntable makes it easier for you to smooth out the cake so that it is even on all sides of the pastry.
  • Piping tips and bags for applying icing and creating various patterns and designs;
  • Serrated cake leveling knife where the blade should be longer than the diameter of your cake because it will make it easier to get flat layers. This will prevent them from wobbling when stacked on top of each other.
  • Cake Smoother for a sharper finish when applying icing;
  • Spatula for adding texture and creating patterns in the icing.

    Tip #3: Crumb coat done right

    Apply Crumb Coat. This is the initial, thin layer of frosting that is first spread over the top and sides of the cake to seal and hold all the crumbs. Thus, when applying the final layer – icing or buttercream, you will not see any crumbs. The cake is ready to be decorated with edible toppings.

    Tip #4: Don’t marry yourself to buttercream

    Play around with different types of icing. Classic Buttercream is available, but you can also try other icing mixes like meringue buttercream, cream cheese icing, or whipped cream icing.

    Tip #5: Follow your heart 🙂

    Decorate the cake according to your own inspiration. Fresh flowers and fruits are available for you. But you can also use countless other edible decorations such as fondantsugar paste, or edible toppings. These can add a unique and personal touch to your cake.   Perfectly decorated cake with macrons
